US revises green storage bill

US senators have introduced legislation to offer tax credits for the creation of renewable energy storage, reports Renew Grid.

The revised legislation Storage Technology of Renewable and Green Energy Act is offering up to $1.5 billion in tax credits to support grid-connected energy-storage projects.

Specifically, the act will provide a 20% tax credit of up to $30 million for storage systems connected to an grid. The bill will also provide a 30% tax credit of up to $1 million to businesses and a 30% tax credit for homeowners for on-site storage projects.

Dell buys out start-up

Dell has signed an agreement to acquire privately held Ocarina Networks, to enhance its management capabilities, states Zacks.

Dell expects to wrap up the Ocarina acquisition by the end of this month. It didn't, however, divulge any financial details.

Ocarina Networks is a technology start-up company selling storage solutions designed to reduce footprints. In 2008, Dell had acquired storage solution vendor EqualLogic for $1.4 billion.

Overland Storage upgrades SnapServer

Overland Storage, a provider of data management and protection offerings, has released a unified block and file storage offering scalable up to 144TB in a compact 2U form factor, according to Computer Business Review.

The SnapServer N2000 is integrated with Microsoft Windows and provides a feature set that includes replication, snapshot capability for both file and iSCSI volumes, the ability to manage multiple SnapServer devices from a single console, and support for SAS and SATA drives in a single device.

Overland Storage said its storage offering is designed for virtualised server environments running VMWare, Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer.
