USAASA finally gets a CEO

Johannesburg, 19 Jul 2010

Sixteen months after its former CEO was axed, the Universal and Access Agency of SA (USAASA) finally has a new head.

USAASA had been searching for a new CEO since last March, when former head James Theledi was axed by the board following charges of sexual harassment. His appeal and subsequent legal wrangling were cited among the reasons for the delay in appointing a new chief.

More delays resulted after poor-quality candidates responded to advertisements, and the recent change of guard at the DOC held the matter up further.

Moleele is no stranger to the task of heading up the agency. As head of legal and affairs, he was acting in the position between Theledi's suspension, in September, and when Winile Lamani took over as acting CEO after Theledi's axing. Lamani was the agency's operational head, before taking over as acting CEO.

The agency lost several top-level staff members in the year to March 2009, among them its CFO, senior manager of human resources, and head of corporate affairs.
