USKO, the JSE-listed information technology company, has restructured its executive management board in order to take advantage of electronic commerce opportunities into the new millenium.
Says John Beck, USKO`s chief executive: "We first changed from a steel and cabling business into an IT company, we then put the necessary building blocks in place to deliver end-to-end electronic business solutions, however, we have reached the stage where we need to take full advantage of this strategic vision.
"Any e-business organisation wanting to survive and flourish over the next few years will require t0he relevant technological and commercially appropriate vision combined with the ability to deliver.
"As a result, the executive of USKO unanimously agreed that Paul Wootten, currently executive director of the E-Commerce division, will take on the mantle of executive director technology and new business development.
"Paul has played a very significant role in re-positioning USKO as an IT company and as a result he has an in depth understanding of USKO`s three divisions, their skills and their clients.
"More importantly, Paul has enormous technology experience and skills as well as a particularly strong flair in identifying new, strategic technology trends and the business opportunities these present.
"For a technology company such as USKO, this role is therefore strategically important for the future success of the business.
"We are very confident that his new role will significantly boost the growth activities which are part of our e-business vision."
Says Mr Wootten: "The traditional functions of an IT company as we know it will be dramatically redefined over the next few years.
"Moving away from the day to day operational functions will free me to focus on taking advantage of these fundamental shifts and to drive the necessary strategic visions across the group.
"We have excellent staff now in place in our Software and Services, Communications and E-Commerce divisions to carry out the day to day implementation of electronic business solutions for clients.
"We have already identified a fast track growth path for key areas of the business which will unlock significant business and shareholder potential.
"While USKO`s divisions have been set up to operate as viable, stand alone business units, collectively they offer incredible value to customers now that their strategies are aligned.
"We are in a position to leverage this alignment to take a lead in the pace with which we are capable of deploying technology and our partnering model.
"We where the first IT company to completely re-engineer from one industry to another in South Africa, a model many have attempted to mimic.
"It is with this hallmark, experience and speed that we will maximise the boundless opportunities available as we accelerate into the new millennium and E-Business space."
The remainder of the USKO executive team remains the same.
