USKO Software`s Systems Solutions Division has introduced OnMark WebCenter, Viasoft`s intranet-based inventory, assessment, deployment and correction platform for desktop Y2K projects, to the South African market.
WebCenter delivers a simple, central point of control for enterprise-wide delivery of Y2K desktop inventory, spreadsheet analysis, database analysis, purchased application inventory, BIOS testing and extensive decision support.
It allows end-users to scan their PCs for Y2K problems through the corporate intranet, with the results of the scan reported to a central database where IT staff can track and manage their corporate-wide Y2K desktop project. In addition, these results are relayed to the end user via e-mail.
"WebCenter adds value by allowing corporate IT departments to easily involve end users, helping expedite their enterprise-wide Y2K projects," says Dave Templeman, general manager of USKO Software`s Systems Solutions Division.
Templeman adds that a Web-based solution is especially beneficial to South Africa`s large, diverse corporations, utilities, and government departments, where the desktop Y2K project initially seemed overwhelming.
WebCenter forms part of OnMark 2000 release 3.0, Viasoft`s comprehensive Y2K solution which includes other inventory and assessment tools designed to bring PCs, client/server applications and networks into new millennium compliance quickly, easily and confidently.
It is bundled as a free product with the minimum purchase of 100 licenses of Viasoft OnMark 2000 Assess Server Edition 3.0, and comprises three key components - the Welcome Center, the Admin Center and the Status Room.
The Welcome Center provides a central point of contact for end users to learn about the Y2K threat, register their participation in the corrective programme, and test their PCs for Y2K date problems, while the Status Room provides extensive reporting facilities for tracking and monitoring the progress of a Y2K desktop project. From the Status Room, managers and project team members can obtain up-to-date year 2000 readiness reports about a single PC, a department, or the entire enterprise.
Finally, the Admin Center is the hub for administering WebCenter deployment, where administrators define the importance of Y2K issues by department and determine which Y2K tests are required.
