UUNET SA, in association with Korbitec launched its server-monitoring product, UUNET Server Notification (USN), a first of its kind for the South African Internet market.
This service, which can be managed from any destination around the world, allows customers to proactively monitor their Windows server network, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This monitoring functionality enables problem identification, diagnostics, reporting and effective isolation procedures to be initiated before the problem becomes damaging.
"Through this cost-effective and comprehensive monitoring solution, UUNET will have the ability to notify customers of server offline, online incidents, threshold breaches, event log and critical errors through e-mail and SMS communication," says Clem Donian, product manager at UUNET SA. "An online interface has been developed for this solution, allowing end-users to take control of each server in respect to what alerts are downloaded, what is monitored, what thresholds are set and who is notified for that particular server."
USN provides an integrated view of the customer`s IT infrastructure through a secure system for consolidated visibility, improved hard drive availability, updated memory capabilities and readily available updates on server downtime. Donian continues: "The solution is also unique in that it is hardware and network independent, meaning that UUNET can offer USN to organisations operating Windows-based servers outside of the UUNET network."
USN provides a comprehensive set of availability and performance reports designed to help customers to track server performance. "These reports are not only essential for performance analysis but they allow for trend and capacity planning on specific server functions through the availability of over 500 potential server alert notifications," says Donian.
This notification via e-mail and SMS ensures that UUNET SA not only keeps customers abreast of their server network health, but also assists by allowing them full control of licensing, alert selection, server responsibility and notification frequencies. "This product innovation is a result of our absolute understanding of our customer`s need to ensure return on their IT investment. Coupled with our continued commitment to provide businesses in Africa with services and solutions that will ensure global competitiveness and ultimately their increased profitability," concludes Donian.
UUNET SA, an MCI company, is southern Africa`s only pan-African provider of Internet-based network solutions and is the largest global carrier of Internet traffic.
