UNNET SA as a leading supplier of converged communications solutions to the African continent has provided the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), one of the world`s oldest non-profit sea rescue organisations, with space in its Cape Town data centre to securely store its online information. In addition, UUNET SA is hosting the NSRI`s Web site - both elements of the sponsorship forming part of the company`s ongoing commitment to social investment to the community.
"UUNET SA is committed to the environment in which we operate and this is reiterated by certain employees who have become volunteers for the Sea Rescue organisation. We are certainly excited and proud to be able to assist the NSRI in protecting their data and equipment in much the same way that they are dedicated to protecting our seas and inland waters," said Gordon Greeff, an NSRI volunteer and coastal business solutions manager at UUNET SA. Solely trained volunteers, committed to keeping South Africa`s waters safe, staff the NSRI. This, coupled with continuous sponsorships, enables the organisation to maintain its imperative service with the expertise and efficiency that the surrounding communities have become accustomed to. The volunteers utilise a two-way radio system, the technology of which is now being stored in the secure UUNET Cape Town data centre - providing extended reach based on the UUNET infrastructure.
The NSRI says; "Just as our brave and dedicated NSRI volunteers are an example to all South Africans; we hope that other corporate organisations will take UUNET SA`s lead in providing reliable avenues for organisations like the NSRI to provide safety and service to our communities."
