Veeam, HP and VMware present Data Protection for a Virtualised World

Event to show how organisations of all sizes can achieve a 3-2-1 strategy for data protection.

Johannesburg, 14 Nov 2014

Veeam Software, VMware and HP are joining forces to host a half-day conference on Data Protection for a Virtualised World at The Forum in Bryanston, Johannesburg on 20 November.

The guest speaker is international endurance adventurer, Peter van Kets, who will share the idea of "Leaving a legacy" with customers through the lessons he has learnt on his extreme adventures around the world. On the event's partner track, he will tackle the topic "Impossible is nothing!"

Veeam will show customers and partners how it protects tier-one apps with VMware and HP. VMware will present on "Brave new IT" and, in the partner track, on the topic "Next-generation data centre - fluid, choice & instant". HP's presentation "Changing nothing risks everything" will focus on its storage solutions for the next era of IT.

Veeam Regional Manager for Southern Africa, Warren Olivier says always-on business environments demand non-stop service delivery. The modern data centre thus exists for just one purpose: to give business users the applications and data they need to do their jobs. To deliver strong availability, organisations should combine the right hypervisor with the right storage platform and the right backup solution.

Veeam Availability Suite, together with VMware and HP's 3PAR storage offering, provides a comprehensive solution that allows organisations of all sizes to achieve a 3-2-1 strategy for data protection - three copies of data, on two different types of media, and one offsite.

Unlike traditional agent-based backup, Veeam's image-based storage snapshots, supported by HP 3Par StoreServ/StoreVirtual and StoreOnce, do not affect live system performance. With a smaller backup footprint, IT managers can back up more frequently, enabling more recovery points to reduce potential data loss. Backups can also be restored in minutes, giving a total recovery time and point objective of under 15 minutes.

"Reliability is under-rated," says VMware's Ian Jansen van Rensburg. "No organisation should run its tier-one business-critical apps on a platform that isn't 100% secure. They need to choose a hypervisor that can support high volumes of traffic, and work seamlessly with storage and availability solutions to give the robust environment the always-on business needs."

Adam Day of HP says: "Data protection is a key aspect of the always-on business that doesn't always get the attention it needs. The goal is to be able to make frequent storage-based snapshot backups, and then guarantee that you can restore from those backups. This is only achievable with the right storage and backup solutions."

Olivier adds that tier-one business-critical apps need best-of-breed protection, which is achieved when the VMware hypervisor, HP 3PAR storage and Veeam Availability Suite work in concert.

This event is ideal for those interested in optimising backup efficiency and reliability, while lowering long-term data retention costs.
