Veeam unveils virtualisation backup
VMware alliance partner Veeam Software has unveiled vPower technology for virtualisation-powered data protection, and Backup and Replication V5 that incorporates vPower's technology, writes CBR Online.
The company says its new vPower technology includes the ability to run a virtual machine in production or in an isolated virtual lab directly from a compressed and de-duplicated backup file on regular backup storage.
The new Backup and Replication V5 offering enables restoration of an entire virtual machine from a backup file in minutes; and recovers individual items from any virtualised application, on any operating system, without additional backups, agents or software tools.
EMC rolls out virtualisation software
New virtualisation software has been rolled out by EMC at VMworld, reports Codestone.
According to reports, RSA - the security division of EMC - has released a solution for cloud security and compliance, which is said to make available its security and compliance tools to virtualised environments.
The firm states the technology will provide a boost to customer confidence in moving business-critical applications to cloud infrastructures, by offering users a complete assessment of security and compliance positions across their VMware infrastructure.
Survey reveals virtualisation challenges
Commvault has released results of a virtualisation survey, which polled Simpana software customers worldwide to determine the key factors driving adoption of server virtualisation and the major challenges associated with managing these environments, states AME Info
A total of 479 respondents underscored the continued rise in server virtualisation, with 46% of those polled citing that between 51% and 85% of their total servers were virtualised. Some 21% reported successful virtualisation of all or nearly all servers. VMware was listed as the virtualisation platform of choice by 83% of those polled.
The survey revealed that the top three factors driving server virtualisation decisions among the respondents are: the need for improved business cost savings and efficiencies, customer responsiveness and improved service levels.
