VELOCIT-e Gaming and Leisure, a division of the NamITech group, subsidiary of JSE-listed Nampak Limited has announced the installation of its locally developed e-Cashier solution as a `Jackpot Payout Machine` for Tsogo Sun`s new Hemingways Casino in East London.

The Smart Cashier, which was initially developed and designed for the gaming industry, is believed to be a world first. The solution provides leading-edge yet industry-standard technology that is highly customisable.

According to Dennis Meyer, Executive Sales and Marketing of VELOCIT-e, the company`s Automated Payment Solution offers ATM functionality, three tier audit capabilities, and remote management-at-a-glance for all networked cashiers.

"Sun International initially made use of the solution in their `coinless` casinos to provide cash-out, balance enquiry and card-to-card transfer facilities in a networked environment. The solution has since been customised to operate as a standalone unit and the overall functionality now incorporates loading value to, and the dispensing of cards. This solution is currently operating in 12 locations on four continents," adds Meyer.

Commenting on the contract at Hemmingways Casino, Meyer said that due to the modular design of the unit, customisation and implementation time has been fulfilled over a relatively short period. "The solution substantially speeds up the processing time and reduces the resources required to manage jackpot payouts. The remote management capability also ensures that cash utilised to effect jackpot payouts is extremely efficiently managed."

Meyer went on to say that VELOCIT-e has recently embarked on the development of a complete management system that is being earmarked for use in both terrestrial and interactive gaming markets. The first pilot version of this offering is expected to be operational shortly.

As part of a growth strategy, Meyer added that the group has taken a strategic decision to establish a business unit that will be positioned to focus on the provision of technology solutions and operational support opportunities created through the transition of existing licensed land-based casino operators into the interactive markets.

Anton Maybery, previously from Innovate Gaming Systems, has joined the group and will assume responsibility for developing the interactive gaming initiative. Maybery stated that VELOCIT-e is now well positioned to take advantage of the likely legislative changes that will result in the National Gaming Board regulating various forms of interactive gaming in SA. He furthermore believes that a number of International operators of land-based casinos are likely to be attracted to the region as the country offers prospective electronic gaming businesses a sophisticated banking infrastructure, suitable telecommunications, a high level of technical and support skills, and significant local currency-based cost-efficiencies.

According to Maybery, the interactive gaming environment provides an exciting opportunity for VELOCIT-e as the markets are rapidly consolidating due to a number of First World countries taking active steps to legalise and support electronic gaming. "Add this growing legislative support to the new network era`s emphasis on bandwidth, an ability to reach consumers on a global scale, system interoperability, and electronic/mobile commerce, the development of branded interactive gaming and entertainment portals will provide the underpinnings for a gaming industry that will look substantially different from its predecessor."

This industry particularly lends itself to the Internet, interactive television and mobile Internet, due largely to the intangible nature of interactive gaming. VELOCIT-e will develop front-end user interfaces to enable operators to function across these multiple delivery platforms.

"The advent of the digital era will provide existing land-based gaming businesses with a number of New Economy type opportunities, and VELOCIT-e will be aligned to offer the traditional market operators a turnkey product offering supported by a host of ancillary services," comments Maybery.
