VERITAS Software has announced VERITAS Cluster Server support for Sun`s new Sun Fire Series servers.

Building upon the company`s 10-year relationship with Sun Microsystems, the announcement extends existing VERITAS Cluster Server support for Sun StorEdge T3 arrays, enabling mutual customers to implement high levels of availability more efficiently throughout the data centre.

VERITAS Cluster Server`s broad support of heterogeneous operating systems and storage, combined with the flexibility of Sun`s new Sun Fire "midframe" servers, allows resources to be scaled and re-purposed as necessary to protect existing IT investments.

"Interoperability means choice," says Dennis Martin, analyst, Evaluator Group. "When end-users have a wide variety of options, they are in the driver`s seat and can choose the best solutions for their computing needs. Interoperability drives down costs and paves the way for new innovation, increasing the return on investment."

"We recognise our customers` need to extend availability into all areas of the data centre, which can prove challenging in today`s inherently heterogeneous environment," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software. "Working closely with key partners, such as Sun, to pre-test both high-end and midrange configurations, allows our mutual customers to safely deploy a variety of solutions to meet their business objectives."

VERITAS Cluster Server allows customers to manage the availability of their enterprise applications within a wide range of configurations. With thousands of hours of experience testing both storage area network (SAN) and traditional client/server configurations, the VERITAS Integration Lab team has vigorously tested VERITAS Cluster Server with the Sun T3 and Sun Fire Series to scale a range of enterprise environments.
