VERITAS Software has announced VERITAS Database Edition/Advanced Cluster for Oracle, the first operating system-independent clustering framework for Oracle Parallel Server and future Oracle database clustering environments.
The latest addition to the company`s VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle family decreases recovery times for critical applications running on Oracle databases and reduces administrative costs associated with managing application availability across heterogeneous servers.
"VERITAS and Oracle have a large number of joint customers who must support stringent uptime requirements across heterogeneous servers and storage," says Rene Bonvanie, vice president of Oracle9i Marketing, at Oracle. "The combination of Oracle Parallel Server and VERITAS Database Edition/Advanced Cluster for Oracle not only meets those data and application availability needs in a single platform, but also helps simplify management of today`s inherently mixed computing environments."
VERITAS Database Edition/Advanced Cluster for Oracle integrates the company`s storage management and clustering solutions into a single suite to support an Oracle Parallel Server-based shared data configuration.
Using VERITAS Database Edition/Advanced Cluster for Oracle in an Oracle Parallel Server environment, applications fail over between servers faster than in single-instance applications since the data remains accessible via all of the other servers. The new solution is also scheduled to be integrated into the VERITAS/Oracle/Sun (VOS) initiative.
"Over the years, our collaboration with Oracle has resulted in a number of solutions to support today`s complex, heterogeneous environments," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software. "This new suite leverages expertise from both companies to deliver the next generation of high availability technology to our enterprise customers."
VERITAS Database Edition/Advanced Cluster for Oracle will deliver maximum application availability by combining the fast failover of VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Cluster Volume Manager with Oracle Parallel Server. It supports mission-critical environments with an easily managed platform for sharing heterogeneous storage, and with the cluster management and communications required to ensure data consistency and availability.
