VERITAS Software and Auspex Systems have announced that they will increase support for customers seeking to automate the backup and recovery of mission-critical information.
Auspex develops and markets NS2000, a line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) products providing access to heterogeneous enterprise data for UNIX or Windows NT clients and servers. NS2000 is supported by VERITAS NetBackup 3.2 with NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol).
"This agreement expands our existing support of enterprise-class Auspex NS2000, which provides users with 24x7 data access, data consolidation across multiple platforms and increased data manageability," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager Middle East and Africa, VERITAS Software. "VERITAS NetBackup offers data protection for Auspex NS2000 file servers, enabling high-speed backup to direct attached tape storage. Ultimately, this translates into business without interruption for our mutual customers."

Both VERITAS and Auspex support the NDMP initiative. NDMP is an open standards protocol that allows NDMP-compliant applications, such as VERITAS NetBackup, to send messages over the network to NDMP hosts, such as NS2000, to initiate and control backups and restores. VERITAS NetBackup offers the corporate data centre manager the ability to protect data by providing NDMP-supported backup to a centralised tape library, such as the ATL P3000, which Auspex resells.
