VERITAS Software has announced an increase of 335% in new licence sales figures for storage area networking (SAN)-related backup and recovery software for the first half of 2001 versus the same period last year.
There is a 246% increase in NetBackup with NDMP and a 246% increase for NetBackup SAN Shared Storage Option.
"The market for networked storage software remains strong," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software. "We have increased our open storage management software market-share as companies seek to optimise their storage hardware use."
Gartner Dataquest produced a report underpinning VERITAS` claims in April this year. It says VERITAS is the leading vendor worldwide in the storage virtualisation software sub-segment with 96.2% market-share.
VERITAS Software also leads in providing networked backup and recovery solutions with 38 percent of the market. The nearest competitor in this sub-segment registers 20%. This study is based on total new licence revenue of $5.3 billion.
"It`s clear our sales figures for NAS and SAN backup software indicate companies are willing to spend money on storage management software solutions rather than on hardware acquisitions, despite the current economic downturn," says Van Noordwyk. "Investment in storage management software makes economic sense at a time when companies are straining to optimise already thin IT resources."
VERITAS Software continues to develop product reach, platform offerings, and an international presence - a three-dimensional expansion strategy designed to position itself to become a $5 billion revenue company from its current status of $1.6 billion.
