VERITAS Software has promoted MGX Storage Solutions from Elite Partner status to eVAR status. MGX Storage Solutions, the first partner of its kind for VERITAS in South Africa, provides hardware and software digital storage solutions to large corporations.
"The high-end enterprise market requires a solutions partner that has more skills than the average distributor or reseller, because the solutions are generally more complicated to implement and require more engineering resources for support," says Malcolm Pannell, sales director, Storage Solutions Division at MGX.
He adds: "The enterprise market is looking for a service provider that will put its neck on the block and ensure integration across the various platforms that are often found within the same organisation."
"MGX has increased the number of its VERITAS-specific skills to efficiently cater to the needs of this market space. MGX has a Veritas technical staff of nine with four dedicated sales staff, backed up by a further 15 sales staff that include VERITAS in their solutions set provide a country wide service," says Mike Rees, business development manager, Middle East and Africa, at VERITAS Software.
An eVAR must achieve the highest level of certification by VERITAS which requires trained staff and experience in both sales and technical support for the complete VERITAS Software range of products.
Pannell says: "We are in direct control of our efforts, have a concentration of skills to properly service the customer and we have shortened the supply chain."
He adds that centralised skills under direct control of the VAR raise no questions as to which link in the channel chain should be performing certain functions for the client. "We have our own skills in-house and I can concentrate them on resolving any difficulties. In a market suffering a skills shortage that`s a major benefit."
He says this promotion forms an integral part of the MGX Storage Solutions strategy and provides an end-to-end storage solution for its customer, taking ownership of the entire project and providing a single point of contact. "Our involvement with Oracle and Sun, via other units in MGX, complements the tape and automated storage services we offer from StorageTek and switching products from Brocade. VERITAS Software already works closely with these vendors, allowing us to provide a fully integrated solution," he concludes.
