VERITAS Software Corporation, The Data Availability Company, has announced it is teaming its enterprise storage area network (SAN) software backup solution, VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option, with Hewlett-Packard Company network storage to provide a complete solution that supports heterogeneous SAN backup and management.
VERITAS Software, along with HP, has fully tested and certified heterogeneous support for LAN-free backups using VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option, the industry`s first SAN-ready storage solution operable on both UNIX and Windows NT.
"This solution strengthens the relationship we`ve created with HP and delivers on our goal to provide value-added offerings to our customers," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software. "The combination of HP SAN tape solutions with VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option ensures that customers can reliably implement tested SAN configurations within their heterogeneous SAN environments at all levels."
LAN-free Backup and Tape Drive Sharing with VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option Backing up data using SAN topology, LAN-free backup significantly reduces or eliminates backup window issues, improving both backup and recovery performance and network performance. VERITAS NetBackup, one of VERITAS Software`s LAN-free backup applications, facilitates sharing of storage peripherals via HP network storage solutions. Allowing individual HP tape drives - standalone or in an automated tape library - to be shared among Windows NT, HP-UX and Sun Solaris backup servers, VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option virtualises tape resources to reduce backup times. This solution also decreases overall cost of ownership as VERITAS NetBackup Shared Storage Option provides better hardware utilization and optimization of resources during backup and recovery operations.
VERITAS SAN Integration Lab
Throughout the course of developing this solution, the VERITAS SAN Integration Lab (iLab) played a key role in leading testing efforts with HP. Working with more than 20 SAN infrastructure, storage, and operating system vendors, the VERITAS SAN Integration Lab is generating a variety of pre-tested SAN solutions. To expedite the delivery of a dynamic SAN tape drive sharing solution to end users, VERITAS Software performed with HP extensive interoperability testing of their products at the VERITAS SAN iLab. Testing on most major operating platforms, VERITAS Software worked with HP to certify the SAN solution in first-rate testing facilities.
"The VERITAS iLab is proud to deliver this heterogeneous SAN tape sharing solution in collaboration with HP," said Ron Martin, Director of Engineering, VERITAS iLab. "We look forward to expanding our strong relationship with HP as we continue to work to provide customers with heterogeneous SAN solutions now and in the future."
