VERITAS Software and Network Appliance, a network-attached data access and management solutions provider, have announced the availability of a fully integrated high availability application solution for Network Appliance`s (NetApp`s) storage appliances.
The integration for VERITAS Software`s Cluster Server with NetApp filers running NetApp Clustered Failover software has allowed customers to achieve continuous access to critical information at both the application level and the data storage level.
"VERITAS Software achieved the integration by developing an intelligent software agent that provides seamless integration with the NetApp appliances," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software.
VERITAS Cluster Server is a solution designed for the Solaris, HP-UX and Windows NT platforms. Support for other platforms will be added as well. The product scales to 32 nodes, has an API to create agents that provide uptime for virtually any application, a JAVA GUI and cascading and policy-based failover.
"Basically the intelligent agent closely monitors the status of the NetApp filers or clustered filers and uses this information to further increase the level of availability for the application services," says van Noordwyk.
NetApp filers provide fail-safe data services to application servers and clients in the Unix, Windows, and Web (HTTP) environments. To further protect against hardware failure of a single filer and improve data availability, customers can deploy NetApp`s Cluster Failover software. This provides automatic and transparent failover capability while additional NetApp data management solutions, such as Snapshot, SnapMirror, and SnapRestore, enable customers to increase the total availability of their data service solution.
The new VERITAS Cluster Server software agent for NetApp is scheduled to be bundled with all copies of VERITAS Cluster Server at no extra cost. The installation and configuration of the agent are completely automated and included in the VERITAS Cluster Server installation process. No additional management is required for the agent.
All applications that support network-attached storage will be supported by this joint solution, including applications such as SAP R3, Oracle database, Microsoft Internet Information Server and Netscape Server.
