VERITAS has announced the forthcoming availability of the VERITAS Cluster Server Traffic Director, enabling customers to manage traffic for front-end Web and application layers of the data centre as part of a complete availability solution.
Organisations understand that enforcing business-critical uptime requirements and ensuring a high-quality user experience means building availability into every layer of their business infrastructure.
"While traditional high availability (HA) solutions focus on availability of back-end database servers or only on single platforms, we provide a complete solution that, with the addition of the VERITAS Cluster Server Traffic Director, manages both scalability and recovery across all layers," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software.
"Our research indicates 80% of companies currently offer some type of direct customer interaction via an online e-business application, often demanding near 24x365 service level availability," says Mark Shainman, senior research analyst, Meta Group, Server Infrastructure Strategies.
"However, with the slowing economy, IT organisations must increasingly justify the value of high-availability infrastructure."
The new enhancement to VERITAS Cluster Server allows IT staff to implement a single, independent availability solution from the front-end transaction layer through to the back-end database layer. The product allows customers to redirect traffic at the transaction or application layers based on content, regardless of application or server platform, providing priority to critical traffic and preventing performance degradation. The result is that availability demands from end-users are consistently met and the user experience is preserved regardless of component failures or dramatic increases in user requests.
The new product can either be used independently at the transaction layer only, or as part of larger, integrated VERITAS Software HA solution. In addition, VERITAS Cluster Server Traffic Director is tightly integrated with VERITAS Global Cluster Manager to provide unified availability management. Through VERITAS Global Cluster Manager, IT staff can also manage VERITAS Cluster Server and VERITAS Volume Replicator installations world-wide from one central console, providing the industry`s first centralised data and application availability management solution.
"In today`s fast-paced economy, the end-user`s perception of availability must be maintained regardless of inevitable component failures, planned downtime, or Internet avalanches," says Van Noordwyk. "Failures and performance issues don`t need to impact the user as long as availability is built into all critical areas of the data centre, and VERITAS Cluster Server Traffic Director is another example of VERITAS Software`s commitment to delivering pervasive availability throughout the data centre, regardless of application or platform."
