Veritas Software introduces data protection and space-management solution for Microsoft Exchange

VERITAS Software has announced details of the first phase of the VERITAS Exchange Initiative, a multi-phased program focusing on key areas of data management: backup/recovery, replication, disk management and SAN management.

The Initiative is intended to leverage the strengths of VERITAS Software`s core competencies in the Windows NT and Windows 2000 industry, and provide customers with superior solutions for Microsoft Exchange environments. In phase one, VERITAS Software is bundling VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 with VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange - a space-management solution designed to fulfill the increasing end-user demand for additional mailbox space.

Branded the VERITAS Exchange Protection Suite for Workgroups, this bundle is the first complete data protection and Microsoft Exchange management solution to be offered to the growing Microsoft Exchange market.

As part of the Workgroup solution customers also receive the added benefits of the new VERITAS Remote Storage for Microsoft Exchange (RSE). VERITAS RSE dramatically reduces the backup and recovery times of Exchange databases by allowing administrators to move older message attachments out of Exchange and onto a secondary storage device such as a tape. Users maintain the capability to access these attachments through Outlook as they normally would.

The product is also tightly integrated with VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000, allowing customers who already use VERITAS Backup Exec to easily plug in RSE and use their existing hardware.
