VERITAS Software has announced version 9.0 of VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare, a pure Internet protocol (IP) solution that delivers the latest backup and restore technology for simple, reliable and complete protection of critical NetWare server and workstation data. With its redesigned graphical user interface, remote connectivity support, new media management capabilities and a variety of options, VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare provides enhanced functionality and increased manageability to augment customers` data-protection strategies.

Version 9.0 of VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare now takes advantage of pure IP environment efficiencies and delivers high service levels without costly infrastructure upgrades. Complete IP support increases network bandwidth by allowing users to remotely manage VERITAS Backup Exec from Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT and Windows 2000. Remote connectivity further eliminates the need for support of additional client protocols.
The redesigned graphical user interface includes wizards to help users simplify installation, backup, recovery, media management and report generation. New wizards created specifically for media management features help automate operation of standalone tape drives, single drive and multi-drive tape libraries. Built-in wizards also assist in grouping devices into logical pools and media sets to easily establish media rotation schemes. Media labelling, cleaning protection, user-defined retention periods and media statistics promote simplified day-to-day media management.

VERITAS Backup Exec Agents and Options
A variety of agents and options assist users in customising their NetWare data protection environment and make VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare the ultimate backup solution for crucial NetWare data. Remote server agents for NetWare, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT and Windows 2000 - as well as included workstation agents for Macintosh, UNIX and Linux - enable cross platform data protection.
The SAN Shared Storage Option lets users create storage area networks (SANs), share tape libraries dynamically between multiple NetWare, Windows NT or Windows 2000 servers and protect NetWare clusters. In the event of server failure, the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option reduces downtime with wizard-based point-in-time recovery of local or remote NetWare servers. Bare metal restoration enables rapid system recovery directly from diskettes, CD-R/RW, or bootable tape without having to manually reinstall the operating system. The Library Expansion Option expands single drive library support included in the product to multidrive tape libraries from all leading vendors. The VERITAS Backup Exec Open File Option protects every file on users` networks, including files in use and provides comprehensive support for NetWare 4.x and 5.x servers, not including NSS volumes.
