VERITAS Software part of powerful Dell Backup Software suites

VERITAS Software Corporation has announced that VERITAS Backup Exec and VERITAS Backup Exec Options will be bundled into the Dell OpenManage PowerSuites for Tape Backup solutions.

"The Dell PowerSuites for Tape Backup offer customers competitive prices, a customised product, service and support, and the latest technology in one package available through Dell`s direct-to-customer business model," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa for VERITAS Software SA.

"The new PowerSuites for Tape Backup is being offered in bundles presenting customers a simplified way to address their storage management needs," says Kevin Reinis, vice president product marketing, Dell Storage Systems Division. The Dell PowerSuites with VERITAS Backup Exec solutions are fully tested and integrated with Dell PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage systems, and will be backed by Dell`s technical support organisation. Customers can choose VERITAS Backup Exec with the OpenManage PowerSuites for Tape Backup in Standard, Enhanced, Professional and Enterprise editions.

The Standard Suite, targeted toward customers in a single-server environment, includes VERITAS Backup Exec in either the Windows NT or NetWare Single Server Edition, along with low administration entry-level autoloader support. The Enhanced Suite, also targeted toward customers with a single-server environment, contains the same components as the Standard Suite, plus Intelligent Disaster Recovery. The Professional Suite, for multi-server environments contains VERITAS Backup ExecMulti-Server Edition in either Windows NT or NetWare, as well as VERITAS Backup Exec Autoloader Option, and VERITAS Backup Exec RAIDirector for NT. A tape RAID option, supporting RAID levels 0,1, 0+1, and 3, that provides increased performance and fault-tolerance of existing tape hardware is also bundled.

The Enterprise Suite, designed for multi-server environments requiring a SAN solution, includes VERITAS Backup Exec Multi-Server Edition for Windows NT or NetWare, VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT or NetWare Shared Storage Option, and VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT or NetWare Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option. Finally, the Server Option Pack offers a choice of one of the following VERITAS Backup Exec Options: VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT Oracle Agent; VERITAS Backup Exec for NetWare Oracle Agent; VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT Microsoft SQL Server Agent; VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT Microsoft Exchange Server Agent; VERITAS Backup Exec for Windows NT Lotus Domino Agent.

VERITAS Software and Dell have a long-standing strategic relationship that began in 1997 when Dell selected VERITAS Backup Exec (previously Seagate Backup Exec) as the preferred backup option for all of Dell`s entry-level, mid-range and enterprise PowerEdge Servers. In October last year, VERITAS Software entered into a technology development and distribution agreement with Dell Computer agreeing to collaborate on future disk and tape management technologies for Dell`s PowerEdge servers and PowerVault line of storage products.

More recently, Dell announced a technology alliance with NuView for ClusterX, for Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS), a software technology recently acquired by VERITAS Software. As part of this alliance Dell licenses VERITAS ClusterX software, which provides setup, configuration and management of all the MSCS clusters in an environment from a single management console. VERITAS Backup Exec and VERITAS ClusterX are part of Dell`s OpenManage systems strategy that helps customers gain control of computer systems while helping to reduce the cost of owning them.
