VERITAS Software has announced that it is collaborating with IBM to develop solutions that will help ensure high availability of the DB2 Universal Database.

These solutions leverage VERITAS Cluster Server, and IBM DB2, to provide enterprise-class, highly available database solutions. The DB2 Agent for VERITAS Cluster Server is an off-the-shelf agent that offers DB2 customers a pre-tested solution to ensure the availability of these environments.

"This is the first in a series of co-operative efforts between our two companies to deliver best-of-breed technologies for enterprise customers. The first release of the product will be for the Sun Solaris environment, with follow-on offerings for other operating system environments," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software.

"As clustering becomes an increasingly strategic part of managing data environments, it is crucial for customers to be able to proactively manage the availability of business-critical data," says Jim Kelly, vice president of marketing, IBM Data Management Solutions. "IBM DB2 and the VERITAS Cluster Server agent work together to help Sun Solaris customers deploy data into highly available environments."

Van Noordwyk concludes: "Over time, we plan to work with IBM to extend support for highly available DB2 across other heterogeneous operating environments to support the interoperability requirements of our mutual customers."
