Verizon switches on LTE network

Mobile operator, Verizon Wireless has switched on its high-speed 4G LTE network to 102 cities in the US, reports MarketWatch.

The mobile operator has also released nine 4G devices in time for the LTE roll-out; including three smartphones, a tablet, two hotspots and three USB modems to connect to the fastest 4G LTE network in the country.

The Charleston Daily Mail says the LTE network roll-out means Verizon Wireless customers will be able to take advantage of speeds up to 10 times faster than a 3G network.

Devices that work with the network include the LG Revolution, the Samsung Droid Charge, and the HTC Thunderbolt, according to the Greenfield Reporter. However, Verizon iPhones cannot access the expanding network.

Customers who travel outside a 4G coverage area will automatically connect to the Verizon 3G network.

The company introduced its 4G LTE network on 5 December, 2010, covering more than 110 million Americans, and is quickly expanding national coverage.

As of 21 July, a total of 102 areas will be covered and the company will continue a phased market roll-out so that by the end of 2013, the 4G LTE network will be available everywhere Verizon has its 3G network, states PR Newswire.
