with Silicon Valley start-up PublicVine to deliver a multimedia enhanced social media networking platform to mobile subscribers.

The platform allows subscribers to upload and stream unique content, share it with their social network, or “vine”, the company explains.

Dubbed “Social Video”, the partnership seeks to deliver African-based content, including African music videos, reality shows and movies, to a collective subscriber base of 21.8 million on the African continent.

Founder of PublicVine Nam Mokwunye says the platform will offer the operators a chance to converge their platforms to grow markets, revenues and returns inside and outside the African continent.

He explains that Social Video can help mobile and fixed operators expand on-network and off-network revenues and returns.

Telecel Zimbabwe is one of the operators involved in the talks; however, it is not yet known which four other African operators are looking to offer the service. Further details are expected early next week.

The platform enables users to provide, as well as consume, premium and exclusive pay-per-view, on-demand and streaming content on mobile Web devices.
