Imagine a world where you don't need to leave your home to rent a DVD or go to a movie, but can rather make a choice from a range of the latest releases in the comfort of your own lounge and view it directly on your television.
This is the world of video-on-demand, and it is coming to Heidelberg through Goal Technology Solutions (GTS). The new video-on-demand service allows users to download films and other content through a media player, and then watch it on their televisions.
“It's like having access to a virtual video store within your own home that always has its movie titles in stock and is open for business 24 hours a day, every day of the week,” says Patrice Lasserre, Chief Operating Officer of GTS, a leading provider of Internet products and services.
“You can browse a catalogue and choose from a range of premium content, including Hollywood blockbusters and popular TV series. The benefit of video-on-demand is its convenience - you choose what you watch and when you watch it.”
GTS is the first Internet service provider in South Africa to offer an Internet protocol-based video-on-demand service. It has already signed up content agreements with major Hollywood film studios and independents, and offers legal content such as music concerts, movies, television series, and documentaries to subscribers.
Unlimited access to library titles is available for a fixed monthly subscription fee, while premium and new releases can be viewed on a pay-per-view basis. Hundreds of titles will eventually be available through the service. A great benefit is that you do not pay for the data cap used to download a movie.
Says Lasserre: “Although some subscribers may be sceptical about the performance of video-on-demand in South Africa, GTS has invested in state-of-the-art technology and world-class IPTV platforms to ensure that we offer a great video-on-demand experience. Downloading a feature film only takes a few minutes on our network.”
Subscribers are also able to effectively administer parental control and manage their accounts, such as loading more credit to rent movies, topping up Internet data caps and viewing service usage whenever they wish.
