Viettel connects Moz schools
Telecoms.com reports.
Viettel acquired a licence for the country in January 2011, and has since built out 12 600km of fibre-optic cable network and 1 800 mobile stations in Mozambique.
According to the carrier, this network represents 70% of the total of Mozambique's available fibre-optic cable and 50% of the country's mobile stations, effectively tripling the density of Mozambique's telecoms infrastructure per one million inhabitants.
According to Saigon Daily, this makes Viettel one of the world's fastest growing telecommunications networks, and places Mozambique among the top three nations in sub-Saharan Africa.
Viettel has entered Africa with the roll out of Movitel, its mobile network in Mozambique, Global Telecoms Business says.
The operator has also offered to link and provide free Internet access to 4 200 schools as part of its promise to the country's government. More than 500 schools have already been connected.
