SA's sole mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), Virgin Mobile SA, has begun its marketing campaign with a prepaid promotion offering customers free SMSes.
The MVNO, which underwent an ownership and strategy change last year, says the promotion - offering free SMSes with every credit recharge - is "the first of many offers to come throughout 2013".
Virgin Mobile SA prepaid customers now receive free SMSes, which can be used over any network at any time, when recharging.
The value of the recharge determines how many SMSes customers receive. A R10 recharge gives 100 free SMSes, R15 gives 150 free SMSes, R35 gives 350 SMSes; and for R50 and over customers get 1 000 free SMSes. These must be used within the period of a month.
Virgin Mobile SA CEO Jonathan Marchbank says the promotion is the "first of many" that the operator intends to launch, providing "transparent value" to the customer.
The promotion will run until 30 April and is available through all Virgin Mobile prepaid stockists, including Edgars, Jet, CNA, Shoprite and Checkers.
