'Virtual assistant' tech makes debut

Screen Media.

This was illustrated by recent installations ranging from a holographic greeter to a multifunction kiosk to a good-old-fashioned 'watch while you queue' screen-media network.

At the Wall Street flagship location of New York City drugstore chain Duane Reade, for example, a holographic character welcomes customers with store information and product recommendations. Its goal: to command attention.

According to Telepresence Option, the technology called the Tensator Virtual Assistant is provided by Lawrence from a Tensator Group.

It is completely customised for Duane Reade, it takes the form of a female greeter who welcomes entering customers and provides information on everything store-related. The greeter has seven different scripts, each of which speaks to a different store element.

“All seven run on a continuous loop,” explained Keith Carpentier, senior business development manager-retail, Lawrence, a Tenstaor Group Company, Bay Shore, in New York.

Carpentier added that an updated version of the virtual assistant is in the works, with more interactive and dynamic capabilities.
