Virtualisation aids green IT

According to Training Zone, virtualisation is one of the technologies that can help organisations green their IT infrastructure, states Zycko News.

Henry Stewart, chief executive of UK-based carbon-neutral training provider Happy, says IT infrastructure is one of the top 10 areas to address in order to enhance the carbon profile of a company.

"There are complex issues involved, but technology like thin client and virtualisation can have a big impact," he advises, adding that centres can provide a particular area of focus due to the amount of energy they typically consume.

Vesi improves virtualised app handling

Vizioncore has developed a management tool based on Microsoft's PowerShell scripting language, says TechWorld.

Vesi is a way to improve the handling of virtualised apps without having to dive deeply into PowerShell.

Based on Quest Software's PowerGUI, Vesi offers a customised graphical interface to provide management functionalities.

Virtualisation becomes building block

Virtualisation technology has become the basis for building managed data centres, it has been claimed, reports Onestopclick.

Communications firm Cisco has launched an Ethernet foundation designed to consolidate local area networks, managed storage area networks and high-performance computing networks.

Mario Mazzola, senior vice-president of the company's server access and virtualisation business unit, commented: "The virtual machine has become the new atomic building block of the data centre, creating new challenges and opportunities with the potential to transform the computing environment and deliver significant benefits."
