IT users in the Middle East and Africa are moving towards "a more holistic view" of storage that aims to optimise systems.

This is according to Jyoti Lalchandani, regional VP and MD of the International Data Corporation (IDC) in the Middle East and Africa.

Lalchandani says: "IT users are increasingly looking beyond the mere acquisition of servers and storage.

"Globally, increased IT infrastructure demands are driving a transition to new technologies such as multi-core processors and server virtualisation."

For this reason, Lalchandani says virtualisation will be one of the key topics to be discussed at the IDC`s upcoming infrastructure road-show, taking place in Johannesburg, on 20 November.

He says the topic will be of special interest to large enterprise users with distributed processes and heavy IT systems, as it explores how users can simplify their server and storage infrastructure.

Among the speakers at the road-show will be Imi Mosaheb, newly appointed country manager for AMD in SA, as well as Frank Touwen, CEO of EMC SA.
