Virtualised Chrome OS released

For the curious, a version of Chrome OS has been released that any newbie can run on their computer whether they are using Windows, Linux or Mac OS, reports TrustedReviews.

The heavy lifting has all been done by gdgt, which has compiled all the code allowing it to be run using virtualisation software VMware Player/Fusion or VirtualBox.

Given the Chrome OS is virtualised, this means users' actual operating system will not be affected. In fact, Chrome OS will be run inside it and can be opened or closed just like any other program.

Vizioncore to overturn backup vendors

Virtualisation software vendor Vizioncore has unveiled a campaign for backing virtual machines, says CRN Australia.

This is in hope to see the company replace entrenched backup vendors such as Symantec and CommVault, The campaign, called Backup 2.0, is pitched at virtualisation administrators who would use the virtualisation management tools that underpin Vizioncore's application suite.

"We want to win the hearts and minds of the virtualisation administrator, not backup administrators who tend to be set in their ways,” says Chris Akerberg, president and COO of Vizioncore.

Systancia unveils AppliDis Fusion 4

French software firm Systancia has introduced AppliDis Fusion 4, the first virtualisation tool to combine desktop and application virtualisation in a single product, according to V3.

AppliDis Fusion 4 enables customers to deliver virtual desktops and access to applications from a single console, in contrast to other virtualisation vendors that offer desktops and application virtualisation through separate products, the company said.

"All the customers we have spoken with want a single solution for both desktops and applications," said Arnaud Caupin, international business development manager for Systancia.
