VMware hones IT management
Despite being a leader in virtualisation wares, VMware often caught criticism for limited heterogeneous management capabilities, motivating a slew of start-ups to emerge with tools to manage VMware virtual environments, writes Network World.
Now that VMware inked a deal with parent company EMC to acquire several IT management technologies, the vendor could make a case for customers looking for advanced management and automation capabilities to take on virtual and cloud computing environments.
EMC and VMware have entered into a definitive agreement for VMware to acquire IT management technologies from EMC's Ionix portfolio for about $200 million.
MS delivers Opalis management solution
Microsoft will soon offer the Opalis solution to server management licensees, reports MCPMag.
Microsoft acquired Opalis Software in December, and described its plans at that time to integrate the technology into System Centre and other Microsoft product lines. Opalis makes IT process automation software that's used for managing data centres.
Customers who purchased Microsoft's server management suite enterprise licence or server management suite data centre licence with software assurance "on or after 10 December 2009" will be granted access to the Opalis software.
Vodafone tops ICT sustainability ranking
According to Tomorrow's Value Rating, Vodafone is ranked as the number one sustainability leader among the 20 largest ICT companies, states Intalbiz.
In the top five were Nokia, HP, France Telecom and Siemens. ICT businesses ranked are cooperating particularly in the area of social and environmental performance in the supply chain and electronic waste management.
The top also shows that European ICT companies are leaders in the business of sustainability. The top 10 has only two Asian companies and one US company.
