VMware's new certification programme for thin client devices will allow Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) clients to make informed decisions about the several thin client devices available running on multiple platforms.

"As enterprises increasingly standardise their desktop environments using VMware VDI, it is important to offer customers the broadest choice of thin client options available," says Jeff Jennings, VP, desktop products and solutions, VMware.

"With an expanding community of thin client vendors, customers can select from a wide range of devices that are specifically designed and optimised to work with VMware virtual desktops."

Chip PC, Computer Lab International, Devon IT, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, HP, IGEL, NEC, Pano Logic, Praim by CompuMaster, Sun Microsystems and Wyse are some of the thin client vendors that will participate in the programme.

Certified thin client devices will be listed on the VMware Certified Compatibility Guide.

In 2000, VMware released its hardware certification programme, which allows VMware and its hardware to fully test and optimise their products for VMware infrastructure.

There are almost 2 000 varieties of server and storage hardware models that are currently certified, representing products from 46 vendors.

VMware works directly with a variety of its Technology Alliance programme members and OEM partners to certify thin client devices.
