Enterprises are dealing with two fundamental client computing issues - providing secure access to an increasingly mobile workforce, and managing the diversity of data, applications and devices needed to run their business, says VMware, a player in the virtualisation and cloud space.
The company says a user-centric approach to personal computing ensures secure access to applications and data from any device, where and when a user needs it. “Establishing a new end-user computing model is a fundamental component of the VMware vision for IT-as-a-service,” it adds.
The company recently released VMware View 4.5, a solution aimed at delivering a virtual desktop to end-users online or offline.
According to the regional director of VMware Southern Africa, Chris Norton, this solution allows users to check out their virtual desktop from the data centre and take it on the road with them.
“Our strategy seeks to free users and IT from more than two decades of complex, device-centric computing and deliver a more consumer-focused cloud experience for the enterprise.”
He says device-centric computing and a more consumer-focused cloud experience for the enterprise have become critical.
Through the abstraction and control of user data and applications, IT can deliver what end-users really need with anywhere, anytime, any-device access, says Norton.
Organisations are also looking at virtual desktop solutions that enable enterprises to improve security, lower operating costs, and simplify desktop administration and management by establishing a modern, end-user computing architecture, he adds.
