Vodacom, SA`s leading cellular network, today announced the introduction of the 076 number range in its local network, which is immediately available to new customers.
The new number range will add to the existing base of 082 and 072 Vodacom numbers which have been successfully and efficiently allocated to some 11 million customers.
Vodacom has been allocated two million numbers in the 0761 and 0762 ranges by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.
"The 076 number range will help Vodacom accommodate its growing customer base in SA. We also believe our customers will soon get familiar with the 076 numbers which are expected to be as popular as the 082 and 072 numbers that are well entrenched in the local market," said Mthobi Tyamzashe, Vodacom Group`s Chief Communications Officer.
Tyamzashe added that given the continued growth of the local cellular market, there would soon be a need for additional numbers. Vodacom has a 54% market share and estimates the number of cellphone users to grow to 30 million within the next few years.
The 076 numbers will be available to both contract and prepaid customers. Vodacom services such as Customer Care and emergency services dialled through the 082 numbers will also be available to 076 customers.
"Customers with 076 prefixes will enjoy the same services and benefits as every other Vodacom customer," Tyamzashe emphasised.
Vodacom also has operations in Tanzania, Lesotho, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique which have a combined customer base of 2 million.
