Vodacom, SA`s leading cellular network, today launched Video SMS, which enables customers to share those larger than life moments with their loved ones.
Video SMS is the latest addition to Vodacom`s comprehensive messaging services offering, such as multimedia messaging service (MMS) and e-mail.
"Video SMS brings messaging to life. This new service allows our customers to also communicate visually, in addition to just text alone, in order to convey the full meaning of a message. Charged at the same price as that of a text message, customers can choose to communicate in the way that suits their moment. Customers are able to share special or fun moments that can`t be described with words alone," was the response from Pieter Uys, Vodacom Chief Operating Officer, when asked why Vodacom launched this service.
"We want to make communication for our customers a joyful experience, as well as affordable, all at the same time," he added.
In fact, a 30 second (300kb) high quality Video SMS costs only 80c, exactly the same as a peak rate SMS, but communicates so much more. This unique service allows customers to capture their moments with a video-capable handset and share it with family and friends instantly: sporting moments, family moments, fun moments, party times, holidays. Customers can share visual phenomenon, eg a first bungee jump off Van Staden`s bridge, a hike up Table Mountain, the beauty of the Mac Mac Falls, or any of our country`s spectacular sights, or share special moments; a baby`s first steps and words; their son scoring his first goal, meeting a celebrity, etc.
