All Vodacom customers now have the option to experience Vodacom's new HSDPA 3.6 broadband service for free until 30 April 2008 across its extensive 3G HSDPA network.
"As the mobile broadband market leader, Vodacom has extended the benefit of South Africa's widest HSDPA 3.6 coverage, free, to all our customers for a period of three months across all 3G HSDPA coverage areas," says Dot Field, Chief Communications Officer, Vodacom Group.
Customers who have an HSDPA 3.6 capable terminal or device such as a Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem, a Vodafone Mobile Connect Express Card or an Embedded HSDPA 3.6 laptop, will enjoy the free activation of HSDPA 3.6 as an addition to their existing data tariff package and will be able to access this service country-wide where 3G HSDPA coverage is available.
From 1 May 2008, Vodacom's HSDPA 3.6 service will be offered to contract, top-up and prepaid customers as a value-added service at R49 per month/30 days, in addition to the current data charge levied.
"With the widest 3G HSDPA coverage in the country, and now HSDPA 3.6 coverage, our customers have the opportunity to experience the fastest mobile broadband first hand," she concluded.
HSDPA 3.6 compatible devices
Customers need an HSDPA 3.6 capable Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem, Vodafone Mobile Connect Card or Vodafone Embedded laptop. The following devices are HSDPA 3.6 capable:
* Huawei E220 USB modem
* Express card - all express cards distributed by Vodacom SA
* 3G Router - when using a 3.6 capable PCMCIA or Express card
* PCMCIA - Huawei E630 and E660
* Embedded laptops such as the Dell D630 and Acer 6492
What is HSDPA 3.6?
HSDPA 3.6 is a 3G high-speed downlink packet access mobile telephony protocol, which offers increased data transfer speeds and capacity of up to 3.6Mbps on the downlink and up to 348Kbps on the uplink, under ideal conditions.
