Vodacom has announced a 20% price reduction on all its standard in-bundle 3G contract and bolt-on tariffs, effective from 1 June 2006.

The price reduction is subject to approval from the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA).

According to a Vodacom spokesperson, the reductions apply to customers who have contract packages and bolt-on 3G bundles, as well as those who enter into data contracts, where the data cards are included in the package.

Customers with 1GB 3G bolt-on data bundles, who pay a monthly subscription fee of R499, will be paying R399 as of 1 June. Customers with standalone 1GB data packages, who pay R599 a month, will gain a reduction to R479, she says.

The proposed reduction excludes prepaid and 3G HSDPA data tariffs.

Other offerings available in the market are: MTN`s 1GB offering at R499 a month, iBurst`s G1 at R599 (including laptop modem, 24 months contract), and Sentech`s MyWireless Flexi 1000 at R549 a month (24 month contract, modem included).

Earlier this month, Vodacom announced customers who own locally-purchased 3G data connect cards could exchange them for free 3G HSDPA data connect cards. This offer is dependant on availability of stock and proof of original purchase within SA, and is effective as of 21 April 2006.

An MTN spokesperson was unable to confirm whether the company would soon reduce its 3G tariffs.
