The benefits of information technology will be experienced for the first time at a rural school in Mpumalanga, thanks to Vodacom`s Yebo Millionaires Game Show.
The Mkhukhumba High School near Hazyview, Mpumalanga, was one of September`s recipients of the monthly computer centre giveaway in Vodacom`s Yebo Millionaires Game Show, designed to say "thank you" to its customers for their support.
Vodacom donates computer centres to two public schools every month, thereby helping to uplift education for the people of the areas in which the schools are situated. The donation is part of Vodacom`s commitment to investing in the communities from which it draws its business.
Principal Ephraim Khambako said he was "over the moon" and extraordinarily happy with the news that his school is to receive a computer centre.
The donation had come at just the right time, he explained, as the government had recently arranged for some new classrooms to be built. One of these will house the new computer centre.
Mkhukhumba School educates 545 pupils and is situated in a disadvantaged rural community. This will be the first time its pupils have access to information technology through computers.
Anyone can nominate a school to receive a computer in the Yebo Millionaires Game Show: he or she simply calls 082-243-2082 and gives details to the agent. An application form is faxed to the headmaster of the school, who must complete and return it to qualify for the lucky draw.
Every week, Vodacom gives two free SMSes to all its customers so that they can enter Yebo Millionaires by sending their nine lucky letters of the alphabet via SMS to 32082.
A customer who has a nine-letter match wins R1 million; those who have an eight-letter match share R200 000; and for a seven-letter match, customers will receive a R29 recharge voucher. Ten Motorola V3 Razr cellphones are given away in the weekly lucky draw and a Ford Fiesta motor vehicle is given away in the monthly lucky draw.
To date, there have been two winners of R1 million each, and five winners of R500 000 each. There is also a monthly car draw for a sparkling new Ford Fiesta.
Customers can enter as many times as they like. Once the free game show SMSes have been used, a premium rate of R1 (VAT included) is charged per SMS.
