Vodacom has unveiled a free conference call , allowing users to set up reserved or unreserved conference calls from mobile or fixed lines.

According to the company, users will only pay for the cost of their calls.

Vodacom says the service features a tool that lets users set up multi-party conference calls by dialling the dedicated conference call number: 0862 800 800.

Chris Lazarus, managing executive at Vodacom Business Services, says the service allows businesses of any size to set up conference calls with up to 25 participants. He explains that, in the past, conference calling was only accessible to larger businesses due to high costs.

Vodacom explains that unreserved calls can take place at any time. Users can select and distribute a six-digit ID to participants and the time can be pre-arranged by the participants. However, says Vodacom, because two groups can choose the same conference ID, exclusivity and privacy is not guaranteed.

In contrast, reserved calls allow users to select a six-digit conference ID and a four-digit PIN. The company says these are then sent to the participants. Moreover, the IDs and PINs are reserved for 24 hours following the call. Vodacom adds that multiple conferences can take place with these IDs and PINs until the reservation lapses. Moreover, reservations can be extended for up to seven days from the time the reservation is made.
