Vodacom launches SMS panic button

Johannesburg, 12 May 2004

Vodacom today launched Look4help, an SMS emergency service that allows Vodacom subscribers to SMS their location to four pre-specified cell numbers in emergency situations.

"Look4help means Vodacom subscribers in emergencies don`t have to waste precious seconds giving their location to a third-party over the phone," said Mthobi Tyamzashe, Group Executive - Corporate Affairs of Vodacom.

Look4help is the first service to provide Vodacom subscribers with a mobile panic button that can alert up to four other cell users. By saving the Look4help number *120*888*888# as a speed dial, you can immediately notify four pre-specified cell users that you need help, and inform them of your current location.

Look4help is available to all Vodacom subscribers for a subscription-free promotional period until 1 September 2004. The cost of activating a Look4help alert is R2.99, and users can register simply by going to www.look4me.co.za and logging into their Look4me account. Remember that you do not need to subscribe to the Look4me service in order to use Look4help. Any Vodacom subscriber can gain login details for the Look4me Web site simply by SMSing the word PIN to 31888.

You will receive a SMS within a short while giving you your unique Look4me Internet pin, and you may then access your account and click on the Look4help link.

The launch of Look4help follows the February launch of Look4me, Africa`s first location-based service using cellular networks. Look4me enables Vodacom contract subscribers to locate any Vodacom cellphone user, provided the user consents to being located. To access Look4me, the command *120*888# is dialled in the same way as a standard telephone number. The customer then navigates a menu with options such as `Register`, `Find cell user` and `Who can find me?`.
