Premium apps are now available from the Vodacom App Store. Vodacom customers now have access to over 5 000 premium applications, in addition to more than 140 000 free apps introduced with the launch of the Vodacom App Store in September.
The premium apps range in price from R5 to R50 and include the Easy K53 app, which prepares would-be motorists for their driver's licence test. A locally-developed premium app, Easy K53 is currently available for free until the end of December, and will be available for R30 thereafter.
Other apps include Expenza, a locally-developed app that enables users to keep track of their expenses, and SMSreplier, which sends automatic replies when you are driving.
Managing executive of digital media at Vodacom, Prins Mhlanga, notes the uptake of the provider's free apps was substantial. “[We saw] over 500 000 downloads in the first three months of launch. We believe the market is ready to experience premium apps.”
Mhlanga says, along with access to premium rated apps, Vodacom has provided customers with a billing mechanism whereby they can use their contract or prepaid accounts to pay for them.
Mhlanga concludes: “Launching premium apps will also provide developers with the opportunity to monetise apps, which is critical in helping the local app and developer market grow.”
As with all downloads, standard data charges apply when downloading apps from the Vodacom App Store.
To access Vodacom apps, customers can go to http://vodacom.mobi/apps on their cellphones or from the apps feature on Vodafone live.
