Thirty-two million rands - that's the value of the prizes that Vodacom has given to its customers through the Yebo Millionaires Game Show to say "thank you" for their support.
Since the show began in October 2005, two people have become millionaires, and another seven received R500 000 each. Thousands more have received airtime top-ups, and hundreds have been given Motorola cellphones.
In addition to the cash, airtime and cellphone prizes, Yebo Millionaires does a monthly draw for a Ford Fiesta. Since the show began, 17 lucky Vodacom customers have driven off with a new Ford car. The monthly car draw is done on the last Tuesday of every month.
Money generated through the Yebo Millionaires SMS competition has also benefited 30 schools throughout South Africa. They have each received a donation of 10 computers and a server, as well as all the software and training needed to educate pupils on the current curriculum.
Vodacom South Africa's Managing Director, Shameel Joosub, says Yebo Millionaires was introduced to provide a tangible way of expressing the company's gratitude to customers for their loyalty.
"It's easy to enter the show - and we give all our customers two free SMSes every week to do so," Joosub says.
To enter the show, Vodacom customers have to SMS their choice of nine lucky letters to 32082. Letters can be repeated, and they can appear in any order. If it's the first time that a customer is entering the show, he or she will be asked to answer a simple qualifying question by return SMS.
Once the qualifying question has been correctly answered, the customer receives a confirmation SMS with the nine letters as well as a reference number and the draw date for which the entry is valid is received. The confirmation SMS must be kept as proof of entry. After the first two free SMSes have been used each week, a premium rate of R1 is charged for each subsequent SMS used to enter. There is no limit to the number of entries.
On Tuesday of every week, independent auditors randomly select the winning nine letters. If an entrant's letters match the nine up on the screen, he or she will be the next Yebo Millionaire. Tune to Vodacom game show Yebo Millionaires on SABC 1, on Tuesday at 6.30pm, after the Bold and the Beautiful, and you could be the next Vodacom Yebo millionaire.
