VOIP traffic can hide info

Polish researchers have developed a range of steganographic techniques which would enable a hacker to hide information in VOIP traffic, reports SC Magazine.

Steganography has been in existence for a considerable time, but it has been mainly used to hide information in standard traffic.

The researchers, Wojciech Mazurczyk and Krzysztof Szczypiorski, have proposed three techniques for hiding information in voice traffic. Like traditional steganography, their techniques can be dangerous to organisations because of the risk of leakage of confidential information.

Grameenphone fined again

Grameenphone, India's largest cellphone operator, is likely to pay Tk250 crore in a fine to the telecoms regulator for its involvement in illegal international call termination business, says The Daily Star.

This is not the first time Grameenphone will pay a fine for the illegal business. The company has already paid Tk168 crore for VOIP use.

Grameenphone is waiting to place the matter to its board about how and when it will pay the money to the telecoms watchdog, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the report added.

Speakeasy keeps SMEs workforce mobile

Speakeasy, a Best Buy company, is helping small businesses deploy mobile workforces and increase productivity with it's Find Me/Follow Me Hosted Voice (VOIP) technology, states Businesswire.

The system gives employees, especially sales teams, the freedom to work out of the office while staying connected to team members and customers. This is an increasingly important issue for small businesses, given that a 2007 Yankee Group survey found mobile workers comprise 40% of today's workforce.

For those already implementing hosted voice technologies, Savatar research shows 84% of small businesses reported their hosted voice system outperformed their old phone system in terms of functionality, with Find Me/Follow Me ranked as one of the top features.
