Vox Datapro offers full telco service to law firm

Johannesburg, 24 Nov 2009

Werksmans, a leading corporate and commercial law firm, recently merged with Western Cape firm Jan S De Villiers. The business is stretched across five offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Tygervalley and Paarl, employing 370 staff members.

The business communicates between the offices on the company's VPN (virtual private network), transmitting to and from the Internet over 90GB of pure work related data on a monthly basis, while internally the figure is closer to 300G. “Data is key to our business, whether it's e-mail, digital dictation, document management solutions (case or matter management) or practice management systems,” says Bradley Butler, CTO of Werksmans.

“Since we began working with Vox Datapro over four years ago, we have embraced a number of their offerings, including data and least cost routing solutions, both of which have resulted in huge savings for us,” says Butler. “We have also started using a 3G APN, which has helped mobilise our workforce, giving us full remote access to our systems while still being cost-efficient.”

Butler says as part of the company's continued effort to improve operations, it recently implemented two new Vox Datapro offerings; line bonding product Fishbone and videoconferencing solution Eyeris.

Fishbone combines multiple independent access lines through line aggregation technologies, into a single high-capacity corporate access solution. “This offers a lower cost alternative to traditionally high-priced access technologies, such as diginet,” says Butler.

“Communication is a key part of the firm's operation, but with offices in Johannesburg and four in the Western Cape having face-to-face meetings is often difficult,” says Butler. “Vox Eyeris videoconferencing provides a high-definition hosted IP alterative to travel.”

Travelling, whether it's driving or flying, is time-intensive, expensive and impacts on productivity. Butler feels videoconferencing takes care of all these issues, while also reducing the company's carbon footprint.

“We have been hugely impressed by the Vox Datapro product offering as well as their level of service. They are more than just a supplier; they are a total telecoms partner, able to constantly innovate and provide us with the most cost-effective offering,” says Butler.
