VW upgrades to HD Radio

Volkswagen revealed at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show that select car models will have an upgrade in entertainment with HD Radio multi-casting technology, reports PR Newswire.

The manufacturer is investigating the opportunity of HD Radio with its latest touchscreen radio system on future models. HD Radio features added broadcasting content and format choices, along with more music, news and talk in crystal-clear sound.

"As infotainment systems become more robust, Volkswagen continues to stay on the cutting edge of the latest technologies," says Toscan Bennett, vice-president product marketing at Volkswagen.

Spain receives interactive TV platform

InOutTV and Electra have entered into a long-term partnership to offer broadcast and connected interactive television services to consumers in Spain over DVB-T, reports TMCnet.

According to the companies, nationwide service will commence from first quarter 2010 over InOutTV's digital terrestrial network. The service will run on zapper and PVR STB silicon free-to-air and Premium TDT solutions, following shortly afterwards in digital TVs.

Electra says its patented 'Trove' can be incorporated into virtually any mass market device, from entry-level set top boxes, digital television recorders and TVs.

Mediacom, Sinclair Broadcasting end dispute

Mediacom Communications and Sinclair Broadcasting Group have ended their dispute in which Sinclair threatened to pull its stations off the cable company's system, reports Globe Gazette.

The one-year deal was announced by Mediacom, covering the retransmission rights for 22 television stations carried by Mediacom in 11 states in the US.

Over 700 000 Mediacom subscribers were at risk of losing Sinclair programming, including 400 000 in Iowa. Among the stations are Fox and CBS affiliates in Cedar Rapids and a Fox affiliate in Des Moines.
