VXL attacks global thin client market with 1GHz product range

Increased performance speeds, wireless LAN connectivity and enhanced security features bolster Thin Client Terminal offering
Johannesburg, 15 Feb 2005

VXL Instruments, one of the world`s leading manufacturers of Windows-based terminals and thin client devices, today stated its intent to increase its share of the burgeoning global thin client market with the launch of its new 1GHz product range.

Based on its market-leading Itona range of thin client terminals, the TC36xx and TC37xx series have been specifically designed for enterprise networks offering organisations a high performance, feature-rich, secure and cost-effective solution to deploying server-based applications.

With the thin client market growing at rates of 20% year on year, compared to 2% growth year on year for the PC market, there is a clear shift by companies toward client server-based infrastructures, drastically reducing cost of ownership, increasing productivity and improving network and application management. This is highlighted in a report from IT research firm IDC, which states that only 50% of the workforce in a large enterprise actually need a full blown PC.

According to Frank Noon, vice-president of sales at VXL, the new product range further reinforces its pedigree in the market. "The introduction of the Itona TC36xx and TC37xx Thin Client devices continues VXL`s long-standing commitment to the thin client industry and dedication to providing customers with the latest in thin client technology. We feel that both the TC36xx and TC37xx series offer unparalleled performance levels and feature-rich applications, all at an extremely cost-effective price, providing our customers with a scalable, easy to deploy solution."

Specifically designed for use by enterprise networks and available with Linux, CE 5.0 and XP embedded. The TC36xx and TC37xx come complete with the new VIA C3-1GHz processor that provides a 25% improvement in connection times, graphics performance and general applications. Compared to the current Via 800MHz models, the TC36xx and TC37xx series provide the user with an instantly recognisable performance improvement With a variety of features and benefits, the Itona TC36xx and TC37xx feature ICA, RDP and Unix connectivity clients, allowing swift connection to IBM and Unix mainframes as well as Microsoft servers. In recognising the growing importance that freedom and security have among the enterprise, the TC37xx series also features USB Wireless LAN connectivity and a USB Internal Smart Card Reader. VXL`s policy of including a keyboard, mouse, management software and three-year warranty as standard remains unchanged, making the new Itona range the best featured thin client at the lowest price.

The TC36 and TC37 will be available in three versions: Windows CE.net, Windows XP Embedded and GIO Linux. The Windows CE.net and XP Embedded versions will support the latest Citrix ICA and RDP clients, Internet Explorer V6.0 for Internet connectivity and software bundles including media player, shockwave, flash and active X. The GIO Linux version features the latest Tarantella client, a Mozilla Firefox Browser, Wireless LAN support and a VNC Server and client.
