Wal-Mart unveils sustainability blog

, which went live on 3 January and features posts from Andrea Thomas, the retailer's senior VP of sustainability, Green Decisions writes.

Called 'The Green Room', Thomas introduced the blog as an opportunity for it to “develop into a vibrant conversation about helping people live better around the globe. I invite you to visit this blog often to learn about the latest in sustainability - ours and yours. We will share our thoughts and ideas, and I hope you will, too.”

The site is based on the three goals handed down by former CEO Lee Scott a few years back: To be supplied 100% by renewable energy; to create zero waste; and to sell products that resources and the environment.

All of these are likely more theoretical than truly achievable, but having them front-and-centre in a publicly facing conversation effort is commendable, TriplePundit says.

Traversing the site, there's an interview with executive VP and president of Wal-Mart Central Mike Moore about the efforts to restore his hometown of Joplin, Missouri; information on the store's green efforts and philanthropy; and hydroponic farming in Costa Rica.

The site appears to be an interactive portal for customers and critics alike, posing a host of open-ended questions and presenting a poll soliciting green New Year's resolutions.
