Communications company Sony Ericsson unveiled its new range of camera phones yesterday, including the first Walkman-branded mobile phone.
Spearheading the range is the K750 two megapixel camera phone that incorporates red-eye reduction and auto-focus features.
"Nowadays, 65% of our consumers are selecting phones with cameras in them, showing there is a significant demand for phones that can be used as imaging tools," says Philippe Kubbinga, sales director of Sony Ericsson southern Africa.
The camera operates horizontally and can be used in conjunction with an add-on flash to take photographs in the dark from up to 3m away.
While the K750 is designed for the high-end consumer market, the K300 camera phone is built for entry-level users.
"Now anyone can enjoy quality picture and video messaging with a phone that is simple to use," says Kubbinga. "The K300 offers many functions previously only found in higher-end phones."
Going fashion-conscious
Also announced was the J300 camera phone targeted at fashion-conscious users. It ships with the Rayman 3 game title and is available with pink, black or white covers.
However, the phone that drew the most interest was the W800, the first Walkman-branded mobile phone.
"We looked carefully at what people want from a mobile digital music player and have come up with a product that fits the bill," says Kubbinga.
"The W800 has great sound quality, is easy to use, has superb battery life and can store a large amount of music. It is an attractive, desirable device that combines high-quality phone, camera, music and games player."
The W800 ships with a 512Mb Memory Stick Duo that can store approximately 150 songs, or 10 to 12 full-length CDs.
