Vodacom Developer Zone manager Gary Cousins says the competition aims to inspire developers to create exciting new mobile data applications, as well as give them a chance to showcase their talent.
He says all accepted applications could win worldwide exposure through the Developer Zone application showcase. "This represents a chance to benchmark our future developers against the rest of the world," Cousins notes.
"The competition targets college and university students, and runs until 31 January. Entrants will be judged on commercial viability, innovation, ease of use, value proposition to user and international relevance, and they will receive 50 free message credits for testing," says Cousins.
The winner will pocket R30 000, with a further R10 000 awarded to the winner`s academic institution. The winner will be promoted on the Vodacom Developer Zone`s application showcase. Two runners-up will be awarded a mobile handset.
Cousins says the winner will be announced at the First Tuesday Vodacom mobile event to be held early next year.
