Washington schools embrace social media

The Evergreen School District will use social media to keep students, parents and teachers informed this fall, reports Katu.

The fifth-largest school district in Washington will use social sites Facebook and Twitter to post updates, upcoming performances and forums.

Officials said giving students a 21st-century requires using 21st-century tools to communicate with them and the public.

Canadian schools adapt network solution

Wolf Creek Public Schools in Alberta, Canada, have selected a combined integrated solution from InfoExpress and Alcatel-Lucent to improve network security and integrity for users on its wired and wireless network, states TMCnet.

Officials at the school said the security solution will protect their public school division's distributed network and help its more than 30 schools provide staff and students with secure access to instructional tools and resources.

The new deployment is also helping more than 7 000 students in the school to expand a successful division-wide mobile computing project. Students, faculty and staff throughout the division are now able access school's network via their own mobile devices.

Cambridge chooses Topyx eLearning

Executive MBA students at the University of Cambridge will be using an application from Interactyx that combines elements of a course management system with social networking, says Campus Technology.

Over the next two years students in Cambridge's Judge Business School will be working with Topyx eLearning.

"We were seeking an e-learning platform that fits with our heritage of fostering collaborative leadership and developing communities of partners," says Simon Learmount, director of the MBA programme.
